Director Robert Rodriguez and writer/actor John Malkovich have
collaborated with the help of Louis XIII Cognac to make a movie that no
one will see for 100 years. Literally. Here, listen to them describe how
they did it and why.
Perhaps inspired by the long time scale filmmaking of Richard
Linklater's Boyhood, John Malkovich and Robert Rodriguez have teamed up
to make a movie that won't be released until 2115. Why? As a promotion
for luxury brand Louis XIII Cognac, which is also aged 100 years. According to io9,
Louis XIII is sending out 1000 tickets to people whose descendants will
be able to see a screening of the film 100 years from now.
I wonder how serious they are about this? To what extent have they futureproofed
their media? The io9 piece says the movie is "preserved on film
stock"...is that and an old movie projector sufficient? Have they
consulted with MoMA or Danny Hillis?
